BAXTER UNVEILS ITS FIRST OUTDOOR GALLERY

YEAR: 2022

Baxter Outdoor Gallery, a Mediterranean oasis in the centre of Milan.

Baxter Outdoor Gallery in Via Turati in Milan is Baxter’s first space dedicated entirely to the outdoors.

What initially seemed like a challenge turned out to be a very successful choice. Baxter has succeeded in recreating an actual garden inside a store.

The project has seen the use of finishes and materials normally used outdoors; from the sisal flooring reminiscent of Mauritanian mats to the rough lime on the walls taken from that used for the exterior walls of houses in Southern Italy.

The space is arranged over two floors. The architecture is outlined with imposing walls, emphasised by bold colour changes, within which the visitor can discover the new Baxter outdoor collection, presented at the 2022 edition of the Salone del Mobile.

Himba and Nairobi designed by Roberto Lazzeroni and Narciso and Dharma by Studiopepe are mixed to convey the research into materials and finishes, the leitmotif of the collection.

Research objects from different parts of the world complete the setup: Nigerian vases, Ethiopian amphorae, a collection of African masks and ancient Chinese objects.

Large plant arrangements recreate the atmosphere of a ‘secret’ garden.

Everything is proportioned in such a way as to make observers forget they are the centre of Milan and help them imagine an open-air space on a Mediterranean island.
